Briar Patch Cottage is located near the Nanticoke River.
You can enjoy a wide range of activities from active
sports to quiet pastimes in the area. Of course, you
could simply stretch out on the porch and snooze the
afternoon away!
But if you want to do a little something different...
For an afternoon in Salisbury (18 miles away) you may
dine in your choice of fine restaurants or casual eateries.
Shop at local antique and gift shops as well as a large
regional mall . You will also find art galleries filled
with art in various mediums by local artists. Bird lovers
and artists alike will enjoy a visit to the Ward Museum,
a one of a kind museum devoted to the art of wildfowl
carving.
Swimming, biking, fishing, crabbing and birding are
long-time favorites. Other outdoor activities include
kayaking and canoeing, which you can do on the Nanticoke
River or any of the local numerous scenic tributaries.
If you enjoy golf and tennis, area facilities are available.
Visit some of the quaint neighboring villages. You will
be only minutes from the historic towns of Quantico
and Whitehaven and from Whitehaven take the free ferry
with a capacity for 3 cars across the Wicomico river
to visit historic Princess Anne in Somerset County.
Just south of Princess Anne are the waterfront communities
of Crisfield and Deal Island boasting some of the finest
seafood from the Chesapeake Bay.
Biking is a favorite area activity. The flat coastal
topography, beautiful rural scenery and sparseness of
auto traffic make biking a wonderful way to explore.
In the summer don't miss the "Red
Roost" crab house complete with songs and banjo
music on certain nights.
